Relax in the Outer Banks
A Stroll the Beach
Moonrise OBX
There are few places where you can experience a sunrise cascading across the ocean in the morning and then a sunset waltzing across the bay in the evening., with he sun painted in streaks and stripes of pinks, reds, and purples. We’re normally night owls but the sunrise was so spectacular that on our first trip to the Outer Banks we got up every day to see it. Now, most of the days that we stay at the house, we watch the sun sink into Kitty Hawk Bay at Avalon Boat Ramp, sometimes alone, sometimes with a group of locals and tourists. The glowing sky sometimes lingers for as long as 90 minutes. We chose this house so that we could walk to sunrise and sunset.
Even more amazing than sunrise and sunset is moonrise over the water. Moonrise is when the full moon rises; it’s often so bright that it can be mistaken for the sun. The first time that we saw it, we were enjoying drinks on the beach and saw such a strong light illuminating the water that we thought a boat was coming in. A friend told us, “No, that’s the moonrise.” We’d never seen such a sight, and now we make an effort to go out to see it whenever we can. They say that you should name your home after something meaningful, and that’s why ours is called Moonrise OBX, to celebrate this amazing spectacle.
We’d stayed in Airbnbs and hotels around the US and Canada, and we took everything that we loved and included it in ours. Comfort and convenience are important to us. We weren’t fans of homes or hotels where we had to hunt for an outlet or decide what not to plug in so we made sure that the living room, kitchen, and every bedroom has multi-outlet power plugs with USB-C and USB-A. We also don’t think you should have to fill your luggage with linens so we provide everything that you need, including beach towels. We want you to start your day exactly the way you like it so our coffee and tea bar includes not just a Keurig, but also a 12-cup Cuisinart coffeemaker, French press, and Hario Mizudashi cold brew coffee maker. We also provide a dozen varieties of tea from highly caffeinated to herbal varieties, and your favorite sweetener—chose from cane sugar, white sugar, stevia, Equal, or Sweet’N Low. Enjoy your drink while lounging on the deck or use our portable, dishwasher-safe coffee cups to easily sip your coffee while strolling on the beach.
Our home features a full-kitchen—we’d stayed in Airbnbs with tiny refrigerators and only one pot and we didn’t want that for you, and we also didn’t want guests to waste their vacation hand-washing dishes so we include a dishwasher. We also have an oven, stove, stainless steel microwave, George Foreman grill, a 16-quart steamer pot, baking pans, and more. Many guests have enjoyed making their own ice cream in our easy-to-use ice cream maker. Or skip the food prep and go to all the great Outer Banks restaurants; we chose this location not just for the sunrises, sunsets, and nearby beach access, but also for the proximity to everything—within a mile of the home are several restaurants, coffee shops, bars, grocery stores, parks, fishing piers, mini-golf, and more. Because it occasionally rains in the Outer Banks, we provide 4 flatscreen HD TVs with Roku, boardgames, and puzzles, and we’re less than half a mile from the movie theater. The home is a short drive to the Wright Brothers Memorial, Jockey’s Ridge, Kitty Hawk Woods, and Nags Head Woods, and more.
The house is inspired by the beach. We use a lot of color in decorating it to celebrate the beauty around us, and we added things to create a relaxed vibe, such as the Sonos speakers in the living room where you can play your favorite tunes and the adjustable massage bed, where you can put your head and/or feet up and down, or have the bed vibrate. We also put colorful strings of fairy lights above two of the beds, where you can choose from 16 colors and various effects to create the perfect ambiance. We hope you’ll think of our home as your home away from home so that you can relax, reset, and recharge while having fun..
