Start the day inspired by watching the sun rise over the ocean. Spend the day writing at the beach; let the sound of the waves guide you. Or pen poetry on the deck or one of the desks at the house, enjoying the coffee and tea bar. Or draft your novel in one of the many Outer Banks coffee shops, such as Ashley’s Espresso, where you can surround yourself with local art, or Front Porch Cafe & Starbucks, which are within walking distance. Then take a walk along the beach. Find out why so many writers say the ocean helps them reset and focus on their craft. Check out these books & poetry about OBX or visit OBX’s great books stores, Island Bookstore, less than 2 miles from Moonrise OBX, or Duck’s Cottage & Downtown Books in Duck.
Inspiration is steps away. The ocean is a 7-minute walk and Kitty Hawk Bay is 11-minutes, where you’ll see amazing sunsets or you can pick up the multi-use path, where you can walk or bike along beautiful Bay Drive. Take a walk in Kitty Hawk Woods or along Jockey’s Ridge, home to the largest sand dunes on the East Coast.
Prefer a different beverage for your writing? Grab a tiki drink at Mama Kwan’s or fresh brewed beer at Swella’s. Drink with the locals at Goombays, Awful Arthurs, or Max’s, all within walking distance of the home. Or pick up your favorite wine, beer or hard cider at nearby Chip’s.
There’s a full kitchen and lots of great restaurants. For a small fee, writers can also to arrange to have the kitchens stocked before arrival.
There are also plenty of books, including books on writing. All writers receive a free writing prompts packet because you never know when writer’s block may arrive. It ensures that you’ll take some of the inspiration that you find at the beach home with you.
The sea, once it casts its spell,
holds one in its net of wonder forever.
~ Jacques Cousteau
